Orchard Ave
A thoughtful revival of a 1930s Montecito cottage, this project centered on preserving charm while introducing a more open, livable flow. We reimagined the home’s layout by removing walls between the living, dining, and kitchen spaces, creating a light-filled heart of the home anchored by a large honed Carrara marble island.
The exterior was equally transformed—relocating the previously hidden front door to create a true entry moment, complete with a custom Dutch door in Benjamin Moore Essex Green, a rich, moody hue that reads nearly black in certain light. A long driveway of crushed Handley Gold gravel leads through refreshed landscaping with coastal rosemary, iceberg roses, lavender, princess plants, and natural boulders, while a hand-built stone wall in the backyard was crafted using materials sourced directly from the property.
Inside, layered materials bring warmth and texture: zellige tile in Casablanca and honed limestone floors (Buff) from Zia Tile in the primary bath, and a mix of Stars & Cross tile in Ash with cement subway tile in Bone in the secondary bath. The kitchen features a brass pot filler by deVOL Kitchens, paired with living brass fixtures by Inside East for a patina-rich finish.
New Milgard windows, fresh paint, updated flooring, a redesigned garage door, and lush Marathon sod complete the transformation—bringing new life to a timeless California cottage.
